Big Sugar: The Acoustical Sounds of Big Sugar Live

February 14, 8:00 PM, Casino Regina Show Lounge

Officially formed in 1991 in Toronto, Big Sugar consisted of vocalist/guitarist Gordie Johnson, bassist Terry Wilkins and drummer Al Cross. Their self-titled debut album was released the same year. The band recorded the album Five Hundred Pounds with the help of guest musicians, including Kelly Hoppe (a.k.a. Mr. Chill) and Garry Lowe, who would become official members of the band and began to bring reggae influences into the band's sound.

In 2001, they released Brothers and Sisters, Are You Ready? featuring hits “Nicotina (She's All That),” “Red Rover,” “All Hell for a Basement”, and a blues-rock rendition of “O Canada.” The band broke up in 2004.

The band reunited in 2010 and in June 2011, they released the album Revolution Per Minute, the first new Big Sugar album in a decade featuring the single “Roads Ahead”. Gordie’s stunningly limber line-up includes drummer Stephane ‘Bodean’ Beaudin and keyboard-savant, ‘DJ Friendlyness’, along with veterans Garry Lowe on bass and Kelly ‘Mr. Chill’ Hoppe manning the harps ‘n’ horns.

Songs: “Diggin' a Hole,” “If I Had My Way,” “The Scene, Better Get Used to It,” “Turn the Lights On,” “Nicotina (She's All That),” “Red Rover,” “All Hell for a Basement,” “I Want You Now,” “So Not Over & Roads Ahead.”

Tickets on sale October 15 for Players Club Members, October 17 for general public.
