Since its formation, this country group has had the same six members: Gene Johnson, Jimmy Olander, Brian Prout, Marty Roe, Dan Truman & Dana Williams. Since 1991, Diamond Rio has charted a total of 33 singles on the U.S. country music charts (five of which reached #1). In 1991, Diamond Rio released its debut single, Meet in the Middle. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, thus making Diamond Rio the first country music band in history to have its debut single reach #1. The group's debut album was released and produced four more top 10 hits including “Norma Jean Riley” & “Nowhere Bound”.

A greatest hits package followed their fourth release, with its lead-off single “How Your Love Makes Me Feel” becoming the band's second Billboard #1 single in 1997. In 1998, Diamond Rio was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

Diamond Rio received the Academy of Country Music's award for Top Vocal Group (1991 & 1992). They also received four Country Music Association awards for Vocal Group of the Year (an award for which they received fifteen total nominations, more than any other country music group in history). In addition, Diamond Rio has received thirteen Grammy nominations and in 2011 won the Grammy for Best Southern Country or bluegrass Gospel Album.
