Rose Cousins
March 11, 8:00 PM, Artesian on 13th
Regina, SK – The Artesian is thrilled to welcome Rose Cousins back to its stage on Saturday, March 11th at 8:00PM. Rose is on tour with her latest album, Natural Conclusion, which landed on February 3rd – in her own words, it’s the most honest and vulnerable thing she’s made so far. Nova Scotia’s Erin Costelo is set to open the show.
The Concert starts at 8PM. Doors open at 7PM. Tickets are $20 in Advance or $25 at the Door.
Driven by a voice that evokes raw emotion, Rose Cousins’ music bravely explores the shadowy corners of the heart. Just as her songs embrace sadness, pain, and longing, these emotions are counterbalanced in performance by quick, wry wit. A native of Prince Edward Island, she lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, deeply values being part of multiple music communities, and is fueled by collaboration.
Her 2012 album "We Have Made A Spark" won a JUNO Award, 3 East Coast Music Awards, a Canadian Folk Music Award, was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, and made picks/best of lists in USA Today, NPR Music and Oprah Magazine. Her music has found its way into several TV shows including Grey's Anatomy.
Natural Conclusion is an album Cousins calls “the most honest and vulnerable thing” she has made to date. “Ultimately, a life consists of many relationships, some chosen and some assigned, each playing different roles on a subjective, expansive spectrum of success and failure. We choose, we are chosen, we are left, we leave, we stay anyway, we grieve, judge and empathize, relinquish, atone alone, keep and let go. Each relationship will come to its Natural Conclusion.”
Erin Costelo has made her presence felt within the Halifax scene, and her status was solidified when We Can Get Over was named R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the 2014 East Coast Music Awards. She has since shared bills with Mavis Staples, Dr. John, and Bettye LaVette, and has appeared on Joel Plaskett’s latest release, The Park Avenue Sobriety Test; she also joined his performance with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Erin’s latest album, Down Below, The Status Quo landed in March 2016.
