April 18, 5:00 PM, Bushwakker

Apr. 18: SCIENCE PUB – If Everyone Could Just Be Kind. Why Intent Does Not Equal Impact. Don’t miss the final presentation of the 2023/2024 season! Enjoy lectures on scientific topics of general interest in our Arizona Room over fine craft beer and award-winning pub cuisine. The room opens at 5:00 PM. Avoid disappointment and come down early for dinner and a pint before the presentation which begins at 7:00 PM. This month’s lecture will be presented by Dr. Roz Kelsey who is an untraditional Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies. This interactive and informal talk will begin with an introduction and overview of Critical Theory and how it is used to critique common taken-for-granted ways of knowing and doing. An introduction of fancy academic terms will be provided for you to use at your next cocktail party or coffee date. We will then move into some general examples of how identity markers (such as race, gender, ability levels, etc.) intersect and function in our society to both privilege and oppress us in different ways. From there we can open it up to some lively and supportive discussion.
