Government House

Discover Government House, a true Canadian treasure!  Built in 1891, this grand building first served as the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories.  Restored to the period of Lieutenant Governor Amédée Forget, who was in office from 1898-1910, the museum gives you a glimpse of life at Government House at the turn of the 20th century. Engaging programming and Visitor Experience Hosts are available to enhance your experience.

Edwardian Gardens

Step back in time and picture yourself in the early 1900’s when Scottish born landscape gardener Mr. George Watt, first created the Prairie Oasis at Government House. The Edwardian Gardens were designed to please the eye and delight the senses. Stroll through the lush gardens and experience the “outdoor rooms” each with its own unique perspective, framed by sweeping lawns that follow the Edwardian Garden design. Awaken your senses and take time to smell the flowers and enjoy the canopy of shade from the tree plantation planted by Mr. Watt well over a hundred years ago. Today the Edwardian Gardens offer thousands of vibrantly colourful annuals and perennials including 5,706 tulips, a Collection Garden featuring magnificent lilies as well as a Rose Garden with hundreds of fragrant blossoms. Choose from a variety of programs to explore the gardens through geocaching, interpretive garden programs or enjoy a customized picnic at your leisure. The Edwardian Gardens surrounding Government House is one of only two such gardens in all of Canada.
